How Far in Advance Should You Request Wedding RSVPs?

An important piece of the wedding RSVP puzzle is when you request that your guests send them back. You need the correct numbers to give to your venue, caterer and other key vendors to ensure that everyone is seated, well-fed and happy (including you and your partner!).

For an average wedding (non-destination), you should send invitations out at least six to eight weeks before the wedding, and have your ‘respond by’ deadline three to four weeks before your wedding date.

For an average destination wedding, you should send out wedding invitations at least ten to twelve weeks before the wedding, and ask that they are back within a month of the wedding. This will give you plenty of time to work with out-of-town vendors and make accommodation arrangements.

These timelines are critical in ensuring you’re getting the correct information from your guests before you absolutely need it. You don’t want to be on the way to your catering meeting frantically calling people who haven’t RSVP-ed.
