Tips for Planning a Destination Wedding

While travel largely froze in 2020, in 2021, many couples are looking toward destination weddings to scratch the travel itch they’ve had for the last year and a half. Destination weddings are so special, but it’s important to understand how they differ from your traditional wedding in your hometown.

Keep in mind that many guests will not be able to make it to your destination wedding, so if you have always dreamed of dancing the night away with 150 of your closest friends and family, then a destination wedding might not be the right choice. That said, if you’re okay with a smaller, in-person guest list, by all means, read on to discover a few tips for planning your destination wedding.

Understand travel restrictions.

If you are hoping for an international destination wedding, make sure you understand the requirements of leaving the country. You may need COVID testing to travel internationally or even to return to the US.

Choose your date, location and vendors.

The first tip is similar to planning for any wedding. You have to start somewhere. So, choose a date, location and vendors. Many destinations have all-inclusive wedding packages that make this step super easy.

Let guests know as soon as possible.

Guests may need to apply for a passport or put aside some extra money to attend your wedding, so let them know the details as soon as possible, even if you’re not ready to send out invitations yet.

Extend virtual invites to all guests.

As we mentioned, a large portion of your dream guest list may not be able to travel for your wedding. Remove the pressure on them by hosting a virtual wedding alongside your destination event so that they can be there in spirit.

Best of all, if using LoveStream to live stream your wedding, your guests can come and watch your wedding at any time, which is a great feature if you’re marrying in a different time zone.
