Who to Invite to your Virtual Wedding

You don’t realize how many people you want to invite (or feel obligated to invite) to your wedding until you begin that fun task of creating a guest list. Whether you’re doing it by hand, in the notes app on your phone, or on a spreadsheet, you might be surprised by how quickly the numbers add up – especially when you account for plus-ones.

Most couples have an A-list of must-have guests, a B-list of if-there’s-room guests, and maybe even a C-list of we-know-they-won’t-come-but-maybe-they’ll-send-presents guests. Typically, the number of actual guests at your wedding depends on your venue capacity and your budget. Those per-plate prices really add up! But what happens when you take your wedding virtual?

If you suddenly don’t need a seat for every bottom, a glass of champagne for every mouth, and a plate of BBQ for every tummy, then where does the guest list end?

Who Makes the Virtual Wedding Guest List?

How many people do you want to watch your wedding live stream? 50? 100? 250? Honestly, the choice is up to you (we can support unlimited guests). But here are a few ideas of people who might not have made your in-person list but who would love to get a link to your virtual wedding!

Friends from School

Maybe this is your elementary school BFF that you recently reconnected with on Instagram or your college roommate who you liked but didn’t love. Any old friends who you occasionally interact with on social media or send that once-a-year “Happy Birthday” text are perfect options for a virtual wedding guest list!

Distant Friends

Friends from out-of-state or even friends in other countries who can’t realistically take a huge vacation just for your wedding are perfect virtual guests!

Friends or Family with Intense Jobs

We know that some jobs simply don’t allow for time off for weddings. Doctors and nurses, teachers, first responders, soldiers, you name it. When time off is hard to come by, consider sending these loved ones a link to your virtual wedding instead. Hopefully they will be able to take an hour to catch it live. If not, they can always watch it later!

Loved Ones with Health Risks

Those who are older or have chronic health issues might be especially wary of social gatherings until this virus is fully eradicated. For those friends and family, consider adding them to the virtual wedding guest list so there’s no extra risk.

Anyone who Might be Sick

It’s not just about keeping your virtual guests safe – it’s about keeping your in-person guests safe, too! If any of your in-person guests are feeling sick before the wedding, kindly ask that they stay home and watch the wedding live stream instead!
