Including Cake Cutting in Your Wedding Live Stream

When our couples purchase their LoveStream packages, they often are hoping to include a few special events. Sometimes this is a first dance, a blessing, or a speech from a close friend. Many of our couples even choose to include their cake cutting as one of their special events! Today, we’re talking about why you might want to do that and how to make it the best experience for your virtual guests.

Why Cake Cutting Matters

As a wedding guest, watching the cake being cut is an indication that you’re about to get some tasty dessert – but for the couple doing the cutting, it’s more than that! Cake cutting, or some version of it, dates back to ancient Rome when grooms would break bread over the bride’s head to symbolize fertility. Times have certainly changed, and these days couples typically feed each other cake to symbolize taking care of one another. Couples also often cut from the bottom tier of the cake to represent a strong foundation.

Reasons to Include A Cake Cutting

1.     Photo Opportunity: Honestly, having a picture of you and your partner happily cutting into a big cake is part of the fun and makes for adorable pictures.

2.     You Paid for that Cake: Wedding cakes can cost hundreds of dollars, so make sure it is the star of the show, at least for a couple of minutes. Otherwise, you have this gorgeous cake sitting in the corner for almost the entire event.

3.     Tradition: Finally, sometimes you include things in your wedding just because they’re a tradition, and that can be fun.

Get the Best Shot

If you do choose to include cake cutting in your wedding live stream, make sure that at-home guests have a great view. Follow the tips below to ensure that!

Move the Camera

Your cake is likely not sitting up at the altar with you, so you’ll need to walk with your new spouse over to wherever the cake is. That means someone will need to be in charge of moving the camera so that at-home guests can get a look at the action.

Up the Lighting

If the lighting is dim in the area where the cake is, you might need to give it a boost with additional lighting. You can rent our LED lighting kit or ask your photographer if they have any equipment you can borrow for the cake cutting.

Get the Angle Right

Finally, you want to give at-home guests a good view of the cake cutting. We suggest that you and your partner stand on one side of the cake so that the camera can see the cake itself as well as you cutting it.
