8 Ideas for Your Elopement Wedding

It makes sense with the pandemic bringing the wedding industry to a halt. But elopements are here to stay - with more couples opting for more affordable, intimate ways to get married after a hard few years.

Below, we have some ideas to make your elopement extra special.

1. Send out announcements
   If you aren’t sending out invitations to all of your loved ones to attend your elopement wedding, then be sure to send our wedding announcements after the big (little) day is done!

2. Expand your guest list
   No one said an elopement can only have a few people! (Okay, well somebody said that - but it’s not a hard rule!). When planning an elopement, think beyond the handful of people you want to be there in-person. Live streaming your wedding means you can have an unlimited guest list without having a huge event.

3. Make it a destination event
   Combine your elopement with a vacation and make it a whole destination wedding! Whether you’re heading to the beach, the mountains or the city, an elopement can quickly turn into a spectacular adventure when you add a destination.

   Just because there are only a few people at your wedding doesn’t mean you have to skip all of the traditions. Have a first look, do a first dance, toss the bouquet to your little sister, the whole nine yards. Wear a black dress or a floral-printed suit. Skip the ring exchange if you want. Make your own best man speech. The world is your oyster when it comes to planning your elopement celebration.

6. Choose a special officiant
   Maybe you want your best friend to officiate your wedding, but they hate public speaking. Well, an elopement is a relatively small event, and they may be up to the task! Choose an officiant who means something special to both you and your partner, and guide them in creating a ceremony that is unique to your wedding.

7. Get ready together
   Typically the engaged couple will get ready with their respective wedding parties. If you’re skipping the wedding party altogether, then there’s no need to get ready alone! Consider getting all dolled up with your partner, especially if you aren’t planning on doing a first look.

8. Make it your own
   Finally, however you choose to get married, make it your own. If you’re eloping, think about why that is the best decision for you and find ways to make your wedding reflect your personality and unique relationship.

Bonus: Don’t forget to capture it on video.

We’d argue that an elopement is even more important to capture on video than a large wedding. After all, there will be fewer people there to help you remember it!
