How Does a Virtual Wedding Work?

A few years ago, the term ‘virtual wedding’ might have people scratching their heads. Today, though, most people understand what to expect: some sort of online experience involving a wedding.

But how does it work? What does a virtual wedding look like from start to finish, for both you and your guests? While a lot of this depends on what virtual wedding platform you’re working with, you can expect a few similarities across the board between weddings.

Your Experience

With LoveStream, you’ll start by choosing your preferred virtual wedding package. These range from single-camera to multiple cameras with remote guests. If you are planning on having a virtual officiant, be sure to check with your local laws to ensure that a remote officiant can legally marry you.

Then, you’ll work with your virtual wedding provider to work out the details of the big day. With LoveStream, this includes a LoveStream support team to help you sort through the details and answer questions along the way.

On wedding day, someone you assign will set up all of the cameras and get everything connected. Since it’s your wedding day, you will have more important things to focus on!

From there, your wedding day continues as normal for the most part.

The Guest Experience

For virtual wedding guests, they will click on the link to your wedding live stream around the time that the wedding starts. With LoveStream, your video works like a DVR, so if any guests are late, they can go back and watch what they missed.

When you or your producer “go live,” your guests will be able to start watching the event from the comfort of their own homes.

When you think about an in-person wedding, the guests sitting in chairs just watch the ceremony. There’s not much audience participation. A wedding live stream functions the same way. Guests will watch you get married on the live stream and if you choose to have an interactive reception, then they will transition over to Zoom afterward. That said, most of our wedding couples opt to just stream their ceremony in order to keep things simple for their online and in-person guests.
