Creating Your Destination Wedding Invitations

Destination wedding?! Sign us up! We love when couples choose a more non-traditional route, especially if that route leads to somewhere sunny and 75. If you’re looking to have a destination wedding, then you know that things get a touch more complicated when planning them. That’s okay though, because in the words of every inspirational speaker ever, nothing worth having comes easy. And after a couple of mojitos sitting poolside with your soon-to-be spouse, any stress will have melted as fast as the ice in your drink.

The most important part of planning your destination wedding is clear guest communication. With a higher chance of error, you want things to be crystal clear for the people lucky enough to join you. We’ve pulled together a few tips, inspiration and more that will make your destination wedding invitation perfect for you and your guests

1.     Design Isn’t Everything (But It’s Definitely Something!)

No, your invitations shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, and don’t need to be something out of a storybook. But they should reflect your style as a couple and the style of your wedding! If you’re modern and edgy, having a destination wedding somewhere tropical, think neon palm fronds and big block font. If you’re simple, demure, and getting hitched at a sweet little chapel in the mountains, go for light, earthy tones, a simple script and airy illustrations.

2.     The Earlier, the Better

Destination weddings take a lot of planning on your part and the guests’ parts: be respectful of that. Send out your invitations at a minimum of three months before the ceremony, but more like somewhere between four to six. Giving guests the time they need to book flights, travel accommodations, dog sitters, nannies or more is only fair. You want your celebrations to be fun, not stressful!

3.     Clear is Kind, Unclear is Unkind

You do NOT want people confused before they board a plane to a faraway land. Make sure that you’ve included as much information as possible. If there’s an itinerary for the entire trip, include it. Hotel blocks? Include the name, hotel, and if possible, general directions to it from the nearest airport. The more information, the better. Making things clear for your guests removes any chance of stress or frustration on your part and allows them to celebrate you better!

Ultimately, your communication and timing matter the most when creating and sending out your destination wedding invitations. If you send them out in a respectful time frame and clearly articulate the who, what, when, where, and why of the event, you’ll have happy guests and be an even happier couple for celebrating with them.
