How to Communicate COVID Etiquette to your Guests
Your wedding day is approaching, and you’re starting to wonder, “What if my guests don’t feel the same way about COVID as I do?” Well, the good news is, your guests want to know how you feel!
The Knot recently conducted its 2020 Wedding Guest Survey, and of course, Coronavirus was a hot topic. Curious about the findings? The study showed that 71% of guests want to know your health and safety measures before RSVPing; 63% want to know if masks will be required; and 60% want to know the total guest count.
Just like you’re concerned about the health and safety of your guests, they are concerned about the health and safety of the offices, homes and towns they will be returning to. So, don’t feel weird putting this information out there! They want to (or should want to!) know.
How to Communicate Expectations to Guests
With the world changing so rapidly, how do you communicate to your guests the information that they want to know? There’s only so much space on an invitation, after all!
If you will be requiring guests to wear masks, we recommend putting this information directly on your wedding invitation. Try this:
Please note that all guests will be required to wear face masks for the duration of the event.
Of course, that’s not the only thing you’ll want to communicate to them. But things like gathering limits can change, as well as location. For example, an open-air wedding might feel safe, but what if a last-minute storm moves the event inside? For that reason, we’d suggest directing guests to your wedding website for the latest information. You can also include them on an email chain, so they are notified directly of any changes.

What might those last-minute updates look like? Be sure to cover all of the following in your updates:
· Mask policy (for guests and event staff)
· Social distancing policy
· Whether the event will be indoors or outdoors
· Total expected headcount
· Whether there will be a seating chart
· Current stats on your state’s COVID cases and restrictions

You know your guests better than anyone! Sometimes guests might feel more comfortable attending a wedding if they know that your grandparents will join you virtually or if only in-state guests will be coming.
