14 Reasons to have a Weekday Wedding
2020 and 2021 have seen all wedding rules thrown out the window. And to be honest? Good riddance to the arbitrary “shoulds” and “should nots” that come with planning a wedding.
One of our absolute favorite trends coming out of the last year is the emergence of weekday weddings.
Why weekday weddings are suddenly so popular
As the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting weddings, engaged couples had the choice to postpone or get married anyways. Nearly half of couples with a 2020 wedding date postponed to 2021 or 2022. Well, all of the couples who got engaged in late 2019 or 2020 had already booked prime dates for 2021. Between the natural flow of engagements and the onset of postponements, the supply and demand of wedding venues suddenly were heavy on the demand side.
Not only were Saturday and Sunday dates limited for venues, but couples who had experienced unemployment during the pandemic found that weekday weddings typically came with a discount.
So, if you’ve been seeing a lot of save the dates for weekdays, now you know why!
The 14 Best Reasons to have a Weekday Wedding
Less competition - we touched on this earlier. If your favorite venue or photographer is booked up every weekend until the end of time, the just might have availability on a weekday.
More savings - again, this is old news by now. But wedding vendors charge a premium on weekends because there is so much demand. On weekdays though, you’re likely to find some major discounts. If you don’t immediately see a discounted price for weekdays, just ask.
Cheaper travel - if you’re having a destination wedding or even just an out-of-town wedding, you’ll find cheaper flights, car rentals and hotels on weekdays.
More chill - not everyone wants a huge, loud party for their wedding. If you’re more introverted or just don’t want a big fuss, a weekday wedding is seriously ideal.
Less alcohol budget - along the same lines, if your bar tab is based on the number of drinks consumed, it’s less likely that your guests will go all-out on a Tuesday.
Everyone can still make it - don’t believe us? LoveStream has live streamed weddings every day of the week - and there are always people watching whether it’s a Monday afternoon or a Saturday night. And, if they miss it, they can re-watch at any point. Guests can literally attend your wedding (virtually) on their lunch break.
The party can continue - ain’t no party like a weekday wedding party ‘coz a weekday wedding party don’t stop. Thursday wedding? Sounds like a great opportunity for an after-party on Friday night, brunch on Saturday and a recovery day on Sunday before work.
An excuse for time off - speaking of work… having a mid-week wedding sounds like the perfect excuse for your friends and family to take a day (or even just a few hours!) off of work. They’ll thank you for the break.
Great for weekend-workers - on the other hand, if you have friends and family who don’t work a 9-5, a weekday wedding gives them a better chance of being able to attend.
You can choose a special day - maybe you’ve always dreamt of getting married on the winter solstice. Well, say hello to your Tuesday wedding.
It’s kind of a boss move - you have to admit, getting married on a weekday is kind of cool, right? Charles and Diana married on a Wednesday, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian wed on a Thursday, and so did Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd. You’re in good company.
Better photos - if you’re venue isn’t ultra-private, you may have a harder time getting photos without looky-loos lingering in the background. Wherever you’re getting married, it will most likely be less busy on a weekday.
Guests don’t have to choose between weddings - with the onslaught of weddings, guests are finding themselves with multiple weddings in a weekend. Don’t make them pick favorites!
Perfect for non-traditional weddings - finally, maybe you don’t want your wedding to follow tradition. Maybe you want to skip the dance floor and speeches, and play pub trivia instead. Weekday weddings are perfect for non-traditional vibes.
