6 Questions to Ask your Small Wedding Venue
If you’re like many engaged folks, you might be looking at smaller wedding venues for a more intimate event. If that’s the case, there are a few extra pieces to think about when choosing a place to host your event. Be sure to ask the following questions when choosing a venue:
1. How much space is there?
The square footage of your venue is incredibly important when having a smaller event. A space that is too large can make the small guest count feel out of place. On the other hand, if you overcorrect and choose a space that is too small, it can feel like you and your guests are packed like sardines.
2. What is the maximum guest capacity?
Speaking of guest count, make sure you know how many guests you can have at your event. A venue may market itself as perfect for “small weddings,” but does that mean a max capacity of 25? 50? 75? Make sure to ask.
3. Do your preferred vendors have minimum order amounts?
Most venues these days have a preferred vendor list. Some are strict about it and will not allow vendors who aren’t on the list. Others are lax, and their list is purely recommendations. And some are in the middle and might allow outside vendors, but at a fee.
If your venue falls on the stricter side, be sure to ask if any of their vendors have a minimum order amount. And if they don’t know, request that they find out. The last thing you want is to have a caterer with a 50-plate minimum for your 25-count guest list.
5. Do you offer accommodations for my guests?
Sometimes for a small wedding, it’s nice to keep the entire group together. If you’re looking for this, then a venue at a bed and breakfast or something similar is the way to go. Be sure to ask how many people they can accommodate.
6. What is the internet speed on the property?
If you’re planning on live streaming your wedding to a larger guest list, be sure to ask your venue about wifi connectivity. If they don’t offer guest wifi, inquire about having access to the business wifi for the purpose of streaming your event.
