Backup Planning for your 2021 Wedding

The world has seen a lot of changes in the last year and we suspect that hardly any weddings went exactly according to plan last year. We also suspect that 2021 will be no different.

Best practices of wedding planning have always included having a backup plan – though usually those backup plans consisted of things like an alternative location in case your outdoor ceremony is rained on.

With so many resources available to you today to handle unexpected events, we highly suggest having a backup plan for most aspects of your wedding. You never know when things are going to change.

Things that could go wrong… and how to handle them like a pro.

VIP can’t travel or misses their flight

Having out of town loved ones is actually incredibly stressful leading up to a wedding. You can’t really relax until they are safely tucked away in their hotel. Should something happen and your most important people (parents, grandparents, maid of honor or best man to name a few) can’t make it, you will want to decide how the wedding will go on.

Some wedding insurance plans cover wedding postponements and delays, but we’d suggest having a live streaming option in place to begin with to avoid any hectic last-minute changes.

The dress or suit gets damaged

There’s not a lot of options you have for your wedding ensemble should something happen to it before the ceremony. Of course, you can wear anything to your wedding, but it won’t be the same.

Prevent any disasters by protecting your wedding attire by wrapping a large, airtight plastic bag around the garment bag. Additionally, do not eat or drink anything that could stain your outfit while wearing it, at least until the reception. All that said, it’s probably a good idea to have a second nice outfit available just in case the absolute worst happens.

Bad weather

Bad weather can put a damper on any wedding, especially outdoor ones. If there’s a chance of rain in the forecast, be sure to have a tent or canopy reserved, or work with your venue to see if they have indoor space available.

Location changes

You might end up with a situation where the entire location of the wedding changes. If this happens, be sure to have a way to communicate changes with guests so that no one gets lost.

The guest list changes

We have offered a lot of advice on downsizing guest lists due to the pandemic, but how do you plan for this in advance? First, we’d advise having a must-have list of people who you would really like to be able to attend, even if you have to cut the rest of the guest list.

For those who don’t make the final cut, having a backup plan in place is vital to ensure everyone can still be a part of your big day. That’s where we come in! Planning a live stream element for your wedding in advance will give everyone the ability to attend, whether in-person or online.
