10 Things We Love About Winter Weddings

As we move further into winter, we absolutely cannot wait to watch our winter couples live stream their weddings! While all weddings are beautiful, there is something especially magical about a winter wedding.

Below, your virtual wedding team is sharing 10 of our favorite things about winter weddings.

1. Moody color palettes.

Deep maroons, rich blues and earthy greens all spell success for a winter wedding. These moody color palettes are such a fun part of any cold-weather wedding.

2. Warm beverages.

Hot toddies, spiked cocoa and mulled wine are all perfectly acceptable signature drinks to serve at your bar. You can even set up a hot cocoa bar with marshmallows, sprinkles and whipped cream for guests to make their own concoctions.

3. Wedding dresses with sleeves.

Of course, your wedding dress can have sleeves any day of the year. But winter weddings lend an extra reason for sleeves due to the chilly weather. Bonus points for donning a faux fur shawl.

4. Tweed suits and knit ties.

The bride isn’t the only person who gets to dress for the weather! Grooms and groomsmen can don fun fabrics that are better suited for cold weather, like a tweed suit and knit tie.

5. Dramatic bridesmaids dresses.

Winter weddings are the perfect opportunity for bridesmaids to don elegant gowns that might be a little more dramatic than what you would find at a spring or summer wedding.

6. Firepits.

Firepits or patio warmers offer the perfect place for guests to cozy up, reminisce and sip their hot drinks. Plus, they make for excellent photo opportunities!

7. Fun desserts.

Of course, desserts can be fun any time of the year. But there is an extra layer of opportunity when it comes to a winter wedding. Seasonal flavors like plum or apple are the perfect options!

8. Seasonal flowers.

From poinsettia and Christmas cactus to Queen Anne’s lace and amaryllis. These flowers are often easy to come by during the winter and can add some serious drama to your bouquet.

9. Winter tunes.

The other week we offered a handful of first dance songs that are perfect for your winter wedding. Thankfully, the seasonal tunes don’t have to stop at the first dance! Play cozy songs during cocktail hour and dancing, as well.

10. Blankets.

You’ve likely seen baskets of blankets at weddings with a sign that says, “To have and to hold, in case you get cold.” Providing blankets, either to borrow or as wedding favors, make a winter wedding that much better!

Bonus: Snowy pictures

We’re dropping a bonus thing we love about winter weddings: the opportunity for snowy wedding pictures. If your geography allows for it, posing for portraits in a wintry landscape makes for some truly magical memories! And it’s fun for guests, too!
